Medicare can be confusing. What’s the right plan for you?
Everyone is unique. There is no one-size-fits-all answer. Helping you find a plan that meets your needs is what I do and I offer my service at no additional cost to you. As a matter of fact, the price for any health insurance carrier’s particular individual policy is the same whether it is obtained from an agent, broker, or directly from the carrier. I am not allowed to add a sales fee to your cost. That means that you will not be able to find a different price for that carrier’s policy from any source, including direct from the carrier. It’s my service that makes the difference. I am an independent agent contracted with many different carriers so I know about a wide range of plans.
Where do we begin?
The standard for choosing an insurance policy, whether it is for your home, your car, your life, or your health, is “Coverage, Cost, Customer Service”, in that order. Notice that I place “Coverage” first. Buyers often shop price, but what good is a cheap policy if it doesn’t provide the coverage you need at the time of claim? You want protection from financial loss from an unforeseen event. Of course you don’t want to over-insure, but you definitely don’t want to under-insure.
The initial interview:
When you call me and we first talk, I ask these questions:
Coverage: What type of Medicare Insurance are you interested in? Don’t know? Check out A B C’s (and D) of Medicare.
Cost: What budget do you have for monthly premiums? No point in buying a policy you can’t sustain.
Customer Service: I am available to set an appointment with you and analyze your insurance needs.
The fact that I don’t make you tell me your phone number or email address to answer basic questions about Medicare should give you confidence that I am trying to help you. All I need to begin is your state: KS, MO, IA, NE, or AR and zip code.
My hope is that once you are confident in my knowledge about Medicare Supplement Insurance plans in your area, you’ll contact me so we can look more closely into your needs. I think that when you talk with someone who can answer your questions – and maybe even ask some you hadn’t thought of – you tend to make better choices.
The next step: Finding a plan suitable for you.
Being a pilot for many years, I always briefed my crew about our flight plan before every launch. So, if you decide you want to meet with me, we will set an appointment to narrow down your specific needs and discuss these questions:
1. What coverage benefits do I need? (Am I in good health or seeing specialists)
2. Do my providers accept it? (What are your doctor's names? hospital choices?)
3. Are my prescriptions covered? (Have your prescriptions available… spelling is important)
4. How much does it cost? (Can I afford it?)
5. How long does the policy last? (The Policy Term… this is important!)
As we discuss these questions, I compare the answers with data that I’ve collected about the options available in your area. I then recommend plans just for you. I don’t show you a list of every option in your area because I don’t see how that’s helpful. This comprehensive list of available plans in your area is found on the Medicare.gov site and is also available to those who receive their copy of “Medicare and You” in the back pages.
6. How do I enroll? (Apply) Finally, when you settle on an affordable plan suitable for your needs, we fill out an application, either online or on paper, and get your signature approval. We must comply with the enrollment period rules established by Medicare and I will explain them to you during our appointment.
