Medicare Supplement Insurance solutions for residents of KS, MO, IA, NE, and AR
Medicare was never meant to cover all your medical expenses. Find insurance to cover those gaps in Medicare and more right here.
The terms “Medigap” and Medicare Supplement Policy are synonymous. Medicare supplement insurance is only one of the solutions to cover the gaps in Medicare… also included are Medicare Advantage Plans and Prescription Drug Plans.
If you have Original Medicare, it is your primary health insurance coverage and administers your benefits under a Fee-for-service plan. A Medigap policy works with Original Medicare, supplementing that coverage and coordinating claims so that after Medicare pays their part, the Medigap policy then pays the remaining Medicare-covered claim according to the Medigap plan benefits in which you are enrolled. They work hand-in-glove. The Medigap in this case becomes your secondary coverage.
A Medicare Advantage Plan will replace your Original Medicare Fee-for-service plan with a private insurance policy under contract with Medicare using a network managed care plan and becomes your primary health insurance. Claims are paid according to the terms and conditions of the Medicare Advantage Plan in which you are enrolled. Medicare does not pay any benefits under a Medicare Advantage Plan except for hospice care. All other Medicare benefits are administered by the Medicare Advantage Plan.
Please note: A Medicare Advantage Plan is NOT a Medicare Supplement (Medigap). They are both solutions, but different products. If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan you cannot use the benefits of a Medigap policy, and if you have a Medigap policy you cannot be sold a Medicare Advantage Plan unless you cancel the Medigap.
If you have a Medicare Advantage Plan and enroll in a Hospital Indemnity plan, the Hospital Indemnity plan will be secondary to your Medicare Advantage Plan and pays claims according to the benefit options you have chosen for that product. A Hospital Indemnity Plan is a supplemental or limited benefit insurance product, and does not coordinate those benefits with your Medicare Advantage Plan. Instead, it pays cash (indemnifies you) to settle your claim.
